HISTORY
The Health Care Ministry was established in 1981. In 1982, the Archbishop of Manila, then His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin, DD, entrusted the leadership of the said Ministry to the Order of St. Camillus (now Ministers of the Infirm) whose charism is to serve the sick.
The Ministry organized the Association of Hospital Chaplains in 1986 with the main objective of providing an on-going, personal, pastoral and professional formation to those who care for the sick and the dying.
In 1993, Cardinal Sin established the Archdiocesan Commission for Health Care Ministry. Since then, efforts have been made to make the ministry parish-based. Hence, in 1994, the same commission prepared and published the Guidelines for establishing Parochial Commission for Health Care Ministry.
With the restructuring that happened in the Archdiocese of Manila, the said Commission became under the Commission on Social Services and Development of the Archdiocese. It became the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila- Ministry on Health Care (RCAM-MHC). For some time, the Ministry was but associated and limited to hospital chaplaincy.
Presently, there are three sub-ministries under the RCAM-MHC: (1) Association of Hospital Chaplaincy (AHC), (2) Parish Lay Health Care Ministry (PLHCM) and Medical Beneficiaries (MB).
